Project Warmth
United Way of Long Island (one of our Hub partners), has an emergency fuel fund, Project Warmth. This is a safety net for households that are struggling to pay their heating bill.
Heat Pumps
Long Island customers who are interested in heat pumps are handled directly by the PSEG Home Comfort Program.

This 2017 study [pdf] from Taitem Engineering in Ithaca, NY indicates that heat pump technology can be cheaper than propane or even natural gas!
A 2023 study found that, even at 0 degrees Celsius, heat pump efficiency is still significantly higher than fossil fuel and electric resistive heating systems at an appliance level.
